When looking to start a new, healthy lifestyle there’s an overwhelming amount of advice and dieting tips available, much of it contradictory. Some diets and dieting tips are wonderful and will lead to successful weight loss and overall improvement in health, while others range from legitimate advice taken to an extreme to absolute, unnecessary nonsense. 1. Eat All of This and None of That
Dieting over the years has touted the benefits of eliminating carbs and fats and eating only proteins to lose weight, depending on which decade and fad diet was popular. In reality, the body uses all three of these nutrients for energy in different ways, and it’s important to maintain a balance between them. For most people this means 50-60% carbohydrates, 10-20% protein, and about 30% fat. It’s very important to note that both carbohydrates and fats have good and bad versions. When putting together a diet, good carbs are complex carbs such as multigrain bread and beans, and good fats are either monounsaturated of poly-unsaturated and can be found in foods like olive oil, nuts, and avocados.
